Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown Announces Call for Proposals
August 04, 2011

(August 4, 2011) - Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown announces that a call for proposals by two federal grant and contributions programs is underway.

The New Horizons for Seniors program is accepting applications for grants of up to $25,000 for projects that encourage seniors to share their skills and experiences with others, and help communities increase their capacity to address local issues.

“The New Horizons for Seniors Program involves the entire community and works to better the lives of all seniors,” said MP Brown.

The program helps to ensure that seniors are able to benefit from and contribute to the quality of life in their community through their social participation and active living. Not-for-profit organizations, coalitions, networks and committees, as well as private sector enterprises (as long as the nature and intent of the proposed activity is non-commercial and does not generate a profit), are eligible to apply.

Proposals are currently being accepted for the New Horizons for Seniors Program until September 16, 2011. Those interested can find more information at www.hrsdc.gc.ca/seniors.

The Small Project Component of the Enabling Accessibility Fund is also open for proposals until September 23, 2011. This fund supports community-based projects that improve accessibility, remove barriers, and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their communities. Grants up to $50,000 per project are provided to improve the built environment through renovation, construction and retrofitting of buildings; modification of vehicles for community use; and through the provision of accessible information and communication technologies.

Not-for-profit and small private sector organizations are eligible to apply.

“Through the Enabling Accessibility Fund, the Government of Canada is improving access to facilities, activities and services and enabling all Canadians to participate fully in society,” said MP Brown.
