January 18, 2011

(Newmarket-Aurora, ON)
- Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown wants to hear your suggestions for the upcoming federal budget.

Residents are invited to share their views and priorities at a public Pre-Budget Consultation meeting on Thursday, January 27 at the Aurora Town Hall, 1 Municipal Drive in Aurora, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“Good planning starts with listening and I look forward to hearing from residents  on how they would like to see their federal tax dollars spent and what their priorities are for the future,” said Brown.

Oral and written comments will be accepted at the meeting. Those wishing to make a 5-10 minute presentation will need to pre-register ahead of time. Residents are also invited to complete a survey, also available online at   www.loisbrown.ca, with the following questions:

Canada is on track for balanced budgets in 2015–16. Is this time frame appropriate? Should the federal government try to get back to balance sooner? Or should the time line be delayed until later on?
In what areas do you think the federal government can be more efficient and effective?

  • What should Canada’s priorities be for the short and long term?
  • What challenges do you foresee in the next 4-5 years?
  • What areas of government spending should be cut?
  • What areas of government spending should be increased?
