Government of Canada Opportunities for Youth
Did you know that the Government of Canada provides many ways for high school and university students to further their career and gain valuable employment experience? Here are some of the many interesting programs available:

House of Commons Page Program - Each year, 40 students are selected from high schools across Canada to come to Ottawa and work as Pages in the House of Commons, witnessing the legislative and democratic process first hand. Pages work on a part-time basis during their first year of study at one of the universities in the National Capital Region. Application forms are available in October.
Senate Page Program - Senate Pages are given a direct opportunity to further their knowledge of parliamentary affairs by exposure to the rich tradition of Canada's Parliamentary system and the Senate of Canada. 15 university students are selected each year who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in one of Ottawa area’s universities.

Library of Parliament Program - The Library of Parliament offers five paid 12-month internships in its Parliamentary Information and Research Service (PIRS) that are open to Canadian university students graduating each academic year. The deadline for applications for 2011-12 will be in early January 2011.

Government Internships – Young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 can benefit from an internship programs available through the Government of Canada’s Public Service Agency including: the Federal Public Sector Youth Internship Program, Post-secondary Co-op and Internship program, Accelerated Economist Training Program for Master's degree candidates, Management Trainee Program, and International Youth Internship Program.

Encounters with Canada –  Every week of the school year, 120 to138 teens from across Canada (ages 14-17) come to Ottawa, where they discover their country through each other, learn about Canadian institutions, meet famous and accomplished Canadians, explore exciting career options, develop their civic leadership skills and live an extraordinary bilingual experience.

High school co-op positions that provide opportunities for students to learn firsthand the many civic responsibilities taking place in our community are also available in my office.
