Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown today announced a contribution of $115,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) to Treefrog Interactive Inc.
The funding supports an innovative research and development project that will assist Treefrog Interactive in creating new products for local and international markets.
“Jobs and economic growth continue to be created by Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” said MP Brown. “Our government is investing in science and technology to create employment, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians’ quality of life. Canada’s Economic Action Plan is supporting firms that successfully develop innovative technologies, which create jobs and stimulate the economy.”
"These last few years, help from the federal government stimulus has been a clear and inspiring drive for us at Treefrog,” said Sean Stephens, CEO of Treefrog Interactive. “Where many talk about a period of 'recession', we at Treefrog talk about a period of 'innovation'. Thanks to IRAP, we have greatly increased our staff, doubled our revenue, significantly matured our products and helped many other businesses grow through web initiatives in the region - mostly through innovations in our products. This period of incredible growth has been through that extra little 'shot in the arm' from IRAP - and we have Canada, through IRAP and the federal government, to thank for it."
Other IRAP investments announced by MP Brown included:
- Eurospec Manufacturing Inc. of Newmarket $150,000
- Midpoint International Inc. of Aurora $100,000
- Myostat Motion Control Inc. of Newmarket $ 33,800
- Pulp Moulded Products Inc. of Newmarket $104,800
- Technicore Underground Corporation of Newmarket $150,000
The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided new resources of $200 million to the Industrial Research Assistance Program over two years to support innovative Canadian firms.
The Industrial Research Assistance Program provides a range of both technical and business-oriented advisory services along with necessary financial support to qualified innovative Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises.
The Harper government is committed to stimulating the economy through the creation of jobs. Canada’s Economic Action Plan continues to create jobs and economic growth with more than 26,000 job-creating projects underway or completed from coast to coast to coast.
Since July 2009 Canada’s economy has created over 460,000 new jobs and the economy has grown for five straight quarters.
“The economic recovery is still fragile,” said MP Brown. “That is why we must stay on track and continue to focus on the economy.”
