It is with great sadness to learn that on March 29, 2009, Dick Illingworth passed away at the age of 92 years.
Dick was a great friend to Aurora, York Region, and indeed all of Canada. A veteran of World War II, Dick truly excelled at serving his community and country, always doing so with great passion and commitment.
His distinguished career included serving as Mayor of the Town of Aurora, and more recently, as a professional journalist.
Dick led his life by example. Whether in politics, journalism, business or serving his community, Dick always set the bar high and lived life to the fullest.
On behalf of my office and the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
"A Celebration of Dick's life" has been arranged for Wednesday, April 8th at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 105 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora. All are invited.
A book of condolence has been placed in the main lobby on the first floor of the Aurora Town Hall with an open invitation to the "community" to stop by and sign the book during office hours Monday to Friday - 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Book will be available until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8th 2009.
