Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown today announced two projects in Newmarket and Aurora that will move forward thanks to an investment of more than $2.1 million from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to stimulate local economies.
Clasix (Canada) Inc. will receive $2 million to establish a global operations and product development headquarters in Newmarket. Clasix provides a bundled, fully managed service package of voice, data and video services, primarily for the hospitality industry. Your Solar Home Inc. will receive $132,250 to acquire and install machinery and equipment to upgrade the assembly process for building the Solar Sheet solar thermal air heating collector.
“These investments will continue to build on our government’s efforts and commitment to support Southern Ontario’s ongoing economic resurgence,” said MP Brown. “Newmarket and Aurora will benefit from immediate and sustained employment opportunities that will help to diversify our local economy.”
“The Clasix business plan projects the immediate hiring of a substantial number of employees in the first year of operation in Newmarket,” said Scott Socol, Executive Vice President of Clasix (Canada) Inc. “We will continue to hire over the next four years with most of the jobs being highly skilled knowledge based employment. We are working hard to secure an appropriate location in Newmarket and expect to have that location finalized over the next few weeks. Clasix is very appreciative of the confidence the Government of Canada has shown in Clasix and for the support provided by Newmarket-Aurora MP Lois Brown, Mayor of Newmarket Tony Van Bynen and also Newmarket's economic development team.”
"We are very pleased to receive funding from the FedDev Community Adjustment Fund Intake 2 program,” said Your Solar Home Inc. President & CEO Todd Kirkpatrick. “This funding directly provides needed new local green jobs in Ontario and allows us to develop next generation solar energy products and expand plant automation. This funding will also enable us to help consumers and businesses with increased energy costs and fight climate change".
