Operation Red Nose helps keep the festive season festive
November 27, 2009
![]() Had too much to drink? Call us – we’ll drive you home in your own car for free. This holiday season Operation Red Nose will be helping to get partygoers and their cars home safely. Operation Red Nose is a unique national volunteer program that offers a free designated driving service to anyone who does not feel fit to drive their own vehicle home. Volunteers will pick you up and drive you home safely in your own vehicle. “Operation Red Nose is all about keeping the festive season festive by preventing needless tragedies resulting from impaired driving,” said Honourary Chair MP Lois Brown. Each volunteer team is composed of a designated driver, escort driver and navigator. After the client is driven home in his or her vehicle, the team returns in an escort vehicle to either pick up other clients or drive back to local headquarters. The service is free however donations from users are accepted. All proceeds raised will be donated to St. John Ambulance York Region. There are 12 Ontario communities participating in Operation Red Nose including Newmarket-Aurora in York Region. The program is recognized as an excellent and practical way for communities to fight impaired driving during the holiday season. Volunteers are still needed. Anyone interested in assisting during the evenings of December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 26 should email onoffice@operationrednoseoperation.com or call 905-773-3354. “Volunteering for Operation Red Nose is a tangible way to serve your community while having a great time during the holidays,” said MP Brown. |
